Ciao. Hola. Bonjour.

Welcome to my blog and my adventures in travel, food, and drink. Hope you have a nice stay!

Rome, Italy Recommendations

Off to the Eternal City for the second half of our babymoon!  Some favorite things:

  • We purchased Executive First class train tickets on TrenItalia from Florence to Rome. At around 75 Euro a piece, they were a bargain compared to Amtrak. We got a full meal with an appetizer, entree, wine, dedicated server, and only a couple of other people in our car. What a peaceful way to travel the couple hours. Highly recommend looking into this

  • Again with the hotel splurge - the St. Regis Rome. My first time to Rome, I stayed across the street and watched all the comings and goings of this beautiful hotel and made a point to stay here for this visit. Attentive service, champagne saboring, fresh fruit trays delivered to our room...the best

  • If it's your first time to Rome, I'm guessing you'll want to hit all the biggies - the Colosseum, the Forum, the Vatican, etc. My suggestion is to buy skip the line tickets where you can (especially the Colosseum and the Vatican/Sistine Chapel in peak season). No tickets for St. Peter's Basilica. This time, we did an underground tour of the Colosseum, which my husband really enjoyed (ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?) and it covered the Forum.

  • You won't need tickets for the Spanish Steps (hit the Via Condotti for designer shopping while here), the Borghese Park, Trevi Fountain, or the Pantheon (festive square here for a drink and people watching).

  • Now, for the food:

    • Da Enzo Al 29 - local joint in Trastevere - get the cacio e pepe and fried artichoke - both Roman traditions

    • Have an outdoor dinner in Piazza Navona - very touristy, but so festive

    • Get a huge meat and cheese board at La Proscuitteria Trevi (easy to combine with seeing Trevi Fountain)

    • Sofitel Rome rooftop restaurant - gorgeous views for lunch and easy to combine with seeing Borghese Park

  • And this goes without saying, but set aside time to wander the streets, eating gelato!

Do you have any tips for Rome?
